LESS – Laparoscopy
Without doubt, operative endoscopy was a revolution in surgical techniques. More and more sophisticated instruments and systems are being developed. On the other hand the need for special endoscopic instrumens, suture material, suturing devices, coagulation and cutting apparatus and the huge amount of disposables let the cost of endoscopic surgery grow into astronomic levels.
LESS-Laparoscopy is a concept of gasless Laparoscopy with the NEW Abdo-Lift™ System (Less-Expensive, Safe and Simple abdominal Lift). LESS–Laparoscopy allows the combination of laparoscopic magnification via modern video technology with the ability to perform standard surgical techniques and procedures utilizing conventinal instruments. LESS-Laparoscopy is a costeffective procedure with a huge cost-utility and cost benefit for the surgeon, the hospital and the health system. This procedure allows a simple, effective and a low-cost start-up set for introducing laparoscopy.
The concept of LESS-laparoscopy avoids problems with gas loss, suction or specimen removal and allows also a new era of laparo-vaginal surgery. It concerns to be an alternative laparoscopic technique to avoid problems and complications due to carbon dioxide pneumoperitoneum. The ability to perform minimal invasive surgery on elderly or risk patients, pregnant women or children and the possibility of performing laparoscopic surgery under regional anaesthesia are new challenges in laparoscopy.
